LAST NIGHTS ECSTATIC DANCE GOES INTO THE HISTORY BOOKS
It was a legendary Ecstatic dance, such an event to recall 30 years later, ‘do you remember that ecstatic dance back in the days?’ An ecstatic rave to spread love peace and harmony. With 300 people we gathered in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam for extinction rebellion to dance for our mother earth.
The group gathered under the viaduct and after a while of waiting and making acoustic music with no clue where to go or where the music would be, we were told to follow the music. The group took a walk until we arrived at the open air theater. We were escorted by 30 police officers that were there to join the party.
After a while the DJ booth arrived, the party could begin. We were told to open the dance by creating a circle like each other ecstatic dance. There we stood in the rain with 300 people holding hands in a huge circle, representing our truth. My lovely friend Carian Thus started her touching an heartfelt speech, that follows:
Welcome
Our planet is in crisis
Around the globe we are experiencing extreme weather, the ice caps are quickly melting, many species are already or almost going extinct
Our planet is in crisis and tonight we have gathered because the government isn’t acknowledging this as they should. We have gathered because the government isn’t taking the action that is very much needed
Out of concern for eachother, for future generations and for our beloved home we will dance tonight
Tonight
We dance to express how this heartbreaking and threatening situation is making us feel
We dance to say NO to all violating ways our planet is being treated
We dance for acknowedgement and change
We dance to rebel against extinction
This will be a silent dance, a silent protest
Without words we speak our truth
There is no alcohol or drugs involved here
As we want our minds to be clear in our intention
We dance our dance of rebellion
Alone, together, in respect with oneanother
As an example of how all life on Earth should be
Please place your hand on our heart and feel what has brought you here
Feel your inner rebel that is saying NO
Feel your love and connection with the earth
Taking her in – her love and her pain
Please open to feel all the people around you who came here with you, with a shared intention
Feeling your feet on the earth, her support, and her gratitude, that you are standing right here, right now
Finding your breath. Let’s connect our breath, breathing together three times into our hearts and bellies
May your dance be prayer for the earth
And know, it will be felt
Thank you

During the two hour set by DJ Yarun Dee, we danced like crazy. With the police besides our sides as our space holders. The light on the DJ booth shined upon their costumes and they reflected like disco balls. I could tell that most of the police officers were very touched by this event. This must have been an extraordinary event for them: a group of very peaceful people that come together to dance for the planet, and they don’t talk, drink alcohol, smoke and neither take drugs.
This most-likely touched their subconscious and make them wonder.
In the closing ceremony we held hands again, some of the police officers decided to join the circle. I held the hand of a policeman on the right, while Carian’s voice spoke trough the microphone again. ‘Close your eyes, feel your heart beating and that from your neighbors, feel the live pulsating through your veins.’ What a magic moment.
When the police left, they were sharing their gratitude and they thanked everyone we told them ‘police we love you, we do this for your children’
Together we are and together we will always be.
